[00:00:00] Speaker A: Welcome to unsigned five one eight's weekend spotlight. I got a great show coming up for you tonight. I have music from Katie Gallagher. I have an unreleased single from Joseph Biss. And we'll also check in with Joseph on the phone about his upcoming tour. And I have a world premiere from Joe Mansman and the midnight revival band. Their new single comes out on the 23rd, but you can hear it now, so stick around.
[00:00:25] Speaker B: It was born on a Saturday in 73 in the park, right? Music on the big guitar with the short, with radio.
It's motherfucking Andy calling.
[00:00:44] Speaker C: Look at my fucking.
Wearing his orange hat.
[00:00:52] Speaker A: All right, so welcome back to Unsigned five one eight weekend spotlight for the weekend of February 16, 2024. And let's jump right into our first event. This first event is happening on Friday, February 16, at Northway Brewing Company. And it is Katie Gallagher who is. She goes way back on the show. Actually, I believe it was from July of 2022. I know it was episode 22. So very early days of unsigned five when I had her on and we got to know each other. I've seen her play a bunch of times. She's super great, an amazing songwriter. I really love her songs. So I'm actually going to play Katie Gallagher's song for you right now. She sent over a couple of tracks off her new live album and said that I could use whichever one that I wanted. So I'm going to choose to play our drive. So this is our drive. Kitty Gallagher. And it's on unsigned five one eight weekend spotlight.
[00:01:57] Speaker C: Well, I thought I take Mr. Bounce and find someone who shouts, me. What? After me.
But if that taught me anything.
The defender isn't always what they see.
I pulled the car over three times on this hour drive on this hour drive to get the thoughts out of my mind it happens all that time it happens all the time when I'm thinking about you listen by women who sound as if they must have loved you too and it's a comfort no, I'm not alone and I'm lonely it happened to have known you I pulled the car all the three times on this hour drive on this hour drive to get the thoughts out of my mind it happens all that time it happens all the time I pulled the car over three times on this hour drive on this hour drive to get the thoughts out of my mind it happens all the time it happens all.
[00:04:59] Speaker A: The time so that was our drive. Katie Gallagher live. And you can actually see her live tomorrow, February 16. That's Friday. If you're listening to the episode as it airs at Northway Brewing Company, 1043 US nine in Queensbury. And the music starts at 530 and goes till 08:00 p.m. So go check out Katie Gallagher. Tell her I said hi. So up next, we have the erotics with Joe Mansman and the Midnight revival band, same old Rat and three DB at Empire Underground, which is 93 North Pearl street in Albany. That is Saturday the 17th. Tickets are just $12 and with that lineup, you really can't go wrong with that. You've got multiple extreme music award nominees on the bill, and clearly some legends with the erotics and Joe management and the midnight revival band who were on episode number 73 of unsigned five one eight back in May of 2023. And I don't know if I've done a longer episode since then, but at the time, it was the longest unsigned five one eight episode. We had a couple of beers and the Dazzle den and got chatting, got to know each other. They hung out for a while, and it's one of my most memorable episodes. I really enjoyed it. And I reached out to Joe today and let him know that I was going to talk about the show at Empire Underground with the erotics and asked him if he wanted me to play a Joe Mansman in the midnight revival band song. And he sent over their new single, which actually is not available anywhere on the planet until the 23rd of this month. So we have just over a week jump on everything else. So I get to do a world premiere of Joe Mansman and the Midnight revival band's latest single. So I guess without further ado, here it is. It's strange ways for the first time anywhere, Joe Mansman and the midnight revival band on Unsigned Renee's weekend spotlight.
[00:07:22] Speaker B: One last kiss to say Goodbye waste our time and lie ourselves do this oh, feels like we're just birds in fly lost in love cursed in light maybe just our fate will die out of faith yeah, you feed my highs and lows all the same oh, we're never hot or cold like you say Gabban will tell us the reason just like we don't know safe and all a strange way lose ourselves for one last ride skin and bones as we run dry trade our words for lies we'll never miss feels like we're just chasing time waiting for that one good line saying we should stay and fight for this yeah you beat I would never hide or come like you say chapter will tell us who he's afloat.
[00:09:00] Speaker C: And flow in a strange way while Ryan we sai and loving slow wow yeah.
[00:09:55] Speaker B: You see my heart hello, it's all I say we're never hot or cold like you say shabbat will tell us to reason blow just like we.
[00:10:24] Speaker C: Don'T know safe in other strange ways.
[00:10:30] Speaker A: All right, for the first time anywhere, that was Joe Mansman and the midnight revival band strange ways. And it was here exclusively on unsigned five one eight weekend spotlight. Thank you so much, gentlemen. I really appreciate. It's an honor to be able to be the first one to play that song. And don't forget, you can see them with the erotics and same old rat and three db at Empire Underground. That is Saturday. Tickets are just $12. And I just want to say, before we move on, I'm excited to announce, if you don't know already, my band, shortwave radio band, is getting the opportunity to play at Empire Underground. A little overboard is headlining. We have hard luck souls, Tom Atkins Band, and Anomalous. And it is March eigth at Empire Underground. We are beyond stoked to be playing this venue. I've seen several shows there.
We encourage everyone to come out. Tickets are just $10 in advance, $15 at the door, and if you need tickets or would like tickets or want tickets or. Holy shit, please buy some tickets. You can reach out to me, dm me on Instagram. So hit me up. Let's do this. All right. For this last event I want to talk about, we have Joseph Biss. He has a tour coming up that's kicking off this weekend. And if you want to get to know Joseph a little more, you can listen to unsigned five one eight episode number 27 back in August of 2022. And that's where I first met Joseph. And we sat down and we talked and come to find out, like, the area that I live in in Skylerville. His family has very deep roots, and his name is all over the place around here. Super cool, dude. I've kept in touch with him, and actually, rather than me tell you about the events, I've actually got Joseph on the phone, so. Hey, what's going on, Joseph?
[00:12:29] Speaker D: Hey, man. How's it going?
[00:12:30] Speaker A: It is going well. And you have a show coming up Saturday, and if I'm not mistaken, that's kicking off like a whole tour for you, right?
[00:12:40] Speaker D: It sure is.
[00:12:42] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:12:43] Speaker D: This Saturday, the 17th, I'm going to be at the Rock Hill bake house in Glenn Falls, New York.
The show is going to be kicked off with my good friend Alicia Macy or Vanscoy of, like, William Hale, goat, sausage, mercy band, all that fine stuff. She's going to play a short set right in the beginning, and then I'm going to play the new album in its entirety. And then probably a short set of bangers afterwards, which, I mean, if Alicia's there with her violin, she might find herself on stage for a couple of those. But I don't know, just throwing that out there.
I'm hitting right onto the east coast. The next day, that Sunday, I'm going to be doing a private show for students and staff over at Middlebury College. And then Tuesday the 20th, I'm going to be booking out to Portland, Maine. There's the blue. It's a jazz bar there. And they were gracious enough to host a set. So I'll be playing there. And then a couple of days after, on the Thursday, I'm going to be trucking over to Burlington, Vermont. I'll be at the Wallflower collective next day, that Friday, hitting the ferry over the Champlain to Plattsburg. I'll be at the coffee Cot espresso bar. And then on Saturday, we're going to kind of do a mellow house show at the living room there. And that will kind of wind things down until we book some more. But otherwise it's going to be a doozy.
[00:14:02] Speaker A: That is. And now, was that something that you arranged yourself? You put the whole thing together? All diY?
[00:14:09] Speaker D: Yeah, absolutely. All diY. Pretty much. I've been saving just contact information over the last decade of playing shows and vending mineral shows and all that stuff. So it just turns out I had made a good group of friends that either know venues that like the kind of music I do or either running venues that the same. They like the folk stuff. So it's just worked out where I can kind of stay with friends I've known for 510 years and see them and then play a show that night and then get back in the car and do it again the next day.
Yeah, it's a little nerve wracking.
[00:14:46] Speaker A: Doing it all sounds like the dream, though. Like, putting it together yourself. You don't have to answer to anybody. It just sounds like so much fun.
[00:14:53] Speaker D: For sure. As long as I got to keep the boss happy, which is me.
[00:14:57] Speaker C: As long as I'm happy.
[00:14:59] Speaker A: And so you just put the album out and we were talking before the phone call that you were going to maybe share a song with us. Is this going to be an unreleased song or something off the album? What do you got for us?
[00:15:12] Speaker D: So this is going to be an unreleased tune. So the way I did it is I put off two singles from the album, two songs that went back to back. I released root rot in the end of January and then the beginning of February, I put out timid thaw on the next of that run. On the actual album, if you're listening to would be mimicry, which is the song you folks are going to hear.
It's a fun one. It all kicked off when I saw what I thought was a hummingbird going to town on the azaleas. And it turned out to be a moth trying to look like a hummingbird. And it got me. So I wrote a whole song about it.
[00:15:46] Speaker A: Awesome. Yeah. Well, Joseph, thank you so much for taking time out of your day to speak with us here. Best of luck on the tour. And obviously, everybody should follow him on his socials. I love your reels and your socials.
Something about the reels with the eye contact with the artist really gets me. I really like that kind of content. And you do it very well. It makes me smile all the time.
[00:16:11] Speaker D: Thank you. That's what I feel like when I see other people doing it engages me the most. So I just feel mirroring that is the best way to do it. If it gets me happy, it's probably going to get some other people happy.
[00:16:22] Speaker A: Yeah, and it is hard to do because it's a vulnerability. You're like, hey, here's me. Here's my face, here's my facial expressions and my eyes and my fucking soul.
[00:16:34] Speaker D: You see right on through into me.
[00:16:37] Speaker A: Absolutely. So I dig what you're doing, man. Well, anyway, let's get back to the show and some music. This is Joseph Biss with mimicry here on the weekend. Spotlight on unsigned five one eight. We'll talk to you soon, Joseph.
[00:16:49] Speaker D: Sounds good, man. Take it easy.
[00:17:04] Speaker C: Jaking flower boxes from the bookshelves that.
[00:17:27] Speaker E: Survive the fire with purpose repurposing life my only purpose I can cry louder than the swarm marigold forget more than forgive me not persistent as they may.
[00:17:50] Speaker B: Be keep me.
[00:18:27] Speaker E: In love.
[00:18:32] Speaker B: I.
[00:18:36] Speaker E: Drank enough take flesh to of the hummingbird growing war I talk to cat.
[00:18:59] Speaker A: On.
[00:18:59] Speaker C: The.
[00:19:04] Speaker E: DCT.
[00:19:09] Speaker C: Close.
[00:19:16] Speaker E: Guided by vengeance and the need to make others choke on my unsuccess flatter to me won't get.
[00:19:27] Speaker C: You farts with me and I'll cut.
[00:19:37] Speaker E: You down with a whitwittle tip I'll split your crown with a little help from my rototiller I'll find your worth and my compost he.
[00:19:59] Speaker A: All right, so that was mimicry. Joseph Biss, for the first time anywhere. An unreleased single. The second in just one episode. And I've got to say how much I appreciate how cool all the artists have been to me and how cool the people that listen and reach out and send me dms. Everybody's been very nice, and I just want to say thank you, and especially to the artists that allow me the access to their music, because I know it's a sacred thing to have your music and to put it in my hands. I feel like there's a certain amount of trust, and I'll try not to break that. And I appreciate all of you, and I appreciate certainly everybody for listening. And before we go, just want to say if you can, like, rate subscribe. I know it's trite, I say it all the time, but it really helps. It takes like 2 seconds and it allows the podcast to grow. It'll get it in front of more ears. And did I mention it's free? But anyway, if you could do me that one solid. One solid, I ask you for shit all the time. But anyway, I love you all. This is unsigned five one eight weekend spotlight for February 16. Take care of each other and I'll see you on the road.
