[00:00:42] Speaker C: All right. Hey, what is going on? Everybody? Happy friggin Thursday.
Welcome to another episode of Unsigned 518's Weekend Spotlight. I'm your host, BJ Swinghammer. And yes, that is my name. Thank you for asking. I mean, know to this day I still get people who are like, is that your real name? And I go, yeah, it's my real name. Because it sounds, it sounds like a name. It sounds like a cool name, but it still sounds like a name. Luckily it's my actual name.
Anyways, welcome back. How you doing? I hope everybody's doing good. I hope your Rika is starting to round off really nice.
I'm glad we are living in an area where the weather's not beating the out of us like sweet many other places around us.
So that's nice. What else is nice? The Eddies. The Eddies are coming up. It's going to be fantastic as it is every year. And the competition, I don't know if I would call it a competition. Everybody wants to see everybody else succeed while still coming out on top. I guess it's kind of like a competition. But either way it's heating up. You've got some great people doing some great stuff. You have a ton of great acts, you have a ton of great bands, people.
It's gonna be, yeah, it's gonna be great this year. And I will be there with bells on.
Maybe quite literally, who knows? Anyways, yeah, so here we are. We've, we've, you know, coming into another week and there's a few things going on here and there. Really. It's still tough to make out who's doing what because it's just. There's so much going on like in my feed, it's crazy. So I got a thing for you. But you know what?
I decided to do another a couple two Schwinghammers Picks of the week and that's what we're gonna start off with. So this first one for Schwing Hammers Pick of the week.
I'm gonna say it again. Swing Hammers Pick of the week. Yeah, whatever.
I'm doing Vexus again. So Vexis Vae X U S is a fantastic metal band that's been coming around. They've been doing great stuff. They have been really lighting the scene on fire and for good reason.
They've got their latest album out me cpa. And it's been. It's a fantastic album. I've listened to it so many times. If I want to listen to something heavy and crunchy that will just rip my face off, that is one of the first albums I go to.
So with that in mind, let's start this off with a song from the album. And this is called Disciples of the Crowd.
[00:03:16] Speaker B: It.
[00:03:48] Speaker D: Too uncontrolled by the height the sacred sand is master race welcome unravel of light There comes with a children behind to put your energy.

[00:09:42] Speaker B: Sam.
[00:10:16] Speaker C: All right, that was Disciples of the Crow from Vexus off the newest album, Me Culpa.
And every. I put them on here several times and I. I always hope that someone's gonna listen to it and go, oh, yeah, I'm gonna, you know, listen to that album, buy that album, whatever. And because it. It's well done and it totally deserves the recognition that it's getting.
[00:10:37] Speaker B: And.
[00:10:38] Speaker C: All right, as far as recognition, I'm also going to put on another heavier band because I can, because it's my fucking show. And I decided to do a black ton Rev. Now, this is also a great group of guys who've been really doing their stuff. They've been. They've been honing in on their sound. It's been absolutely amazing to watch them just doing their thing. Their new album, Upstate of Mind, has been out for a while now.
And it's. It's so good. It's so good.
And so, yeah, I'm gonna play a song from that. So Black Ton Reverend Up State of Mind. And this one is Rust.
[00:11:28] Speaker B: Sam.
[00:12:05] Speaker A: Hey, how are you?
All good with me Nothing to do and nothing to see I'm wasted again Fifth time this week But I'm not your problem so just let me be.
Next round on me Double shot of cheap shit from the well Sleep of the night. Cause tomorrow you wake up in hell I live there Somehow it makes it all better?

This is the end. Read the rest of the letter.
[00:16:09] Speaker C: All right, that was Russ from Black Ton.
[00:16:11] Speaker B: Rev.
[00:16:12] Speaker C: Off the newest album of State of Mind. Yeah, I like starting off a show like this. I like starting off an episode with some really good loud music. It kind of. Especially if you're listening to this in the morning, it's gonna wake you right the hell up, you know, sip some coffee, listen to this. Boom. You're there. You're wide awake. You can do anything. You're firing on all cylinders, hopefully.
And if you're, you know, dragging your ass because you're tired, hopefully this will give you enough pick me up to, you know, get you through until lunchtime. But. Okay, so let's look beyond lunchtime. Let's look beyond lunchtime. Let's look beyond Friday. Let's look into Saturday.
We're at the Van Dyke Music Club and Schenectady at 8pm you have the Alec Lewis Group and Bad Monk Funk.
So two great bands.
And Alec Lewis group is. It's a great group of guys. I love them to death. And so that. So that's how you know that I'm gonna put them on for the song. So. Yeah. And the Van Dyke is awesome. Anyways, I don't know if you've been there. It's absolutely gorgeous. It's a beautiful place. And it gives you just one more reason to go to Schenectady. And there's so many these days and. All right, so getting. Getting moving. Moving ahead. Moving it. Alec Lewis group, they have their album from last year, Don't Cross Me. And what a great album it is. They really. They put their all into it, and it's so good. So I am gonna play this. This one is called six.
[00:17:42] Speaker B: Sam,
[00:18:18] Speaker E: Wake up, you got the 9
[00:18:20] Speaker F: to 5
[00:18:24] Speaker E: get in in the shower just in time Stop me living till just, just about four Then I juice the brain and I hit the door.

You got a five band bill, no fun, no crowd double going Saturday and into the ground.
Because nothing hits better than a six show week.
Never knowing when the next time you eat.
Cause this one's already a few two steps off the track.
It's like 1am they finally left the
[00:20:11] Speaker B: stage
[00:20:13] Speaker E: and now the goddamn crowd is yelling their name.
Still nothing hits better than a six show week.
Coming straight off three hours of sleep week.
[00:21:21] Speaker B: Sam,
[00:21:55] Speaker E: Tell me what hits better than a six show week.
Never knowing quite when.
[00:22:03] Speaker B: E,
[00:22:07] Speaker E: tell me what hits better than a six show week
[00:22:13] Speaker B: when you got
[00:22:13] Speaker E: another one coming up next week.
[00:22:19] Speaker C: All right, that was six show week from the Alice Lewis group off their newest album Don't Cross Me. And you know what? First off, for an album called Don't Cross Me, you kind of listen to it. You go, I don't want to cross these guys. These are great guys. They're putting out great fucking music. Why would I cross them? Why indeed? Who knows? Who knows why people do what they do? People are odd little things kicking around and you know what, Sometimes you go, oh man, people are weird. It's kind of off putting. But you know what, let me put you back on track because now it is time to listen to our band show. So every week, whenever possible, we try to check in with these guys. They do amazing work for local music and you know, they, they're chugging right along, they're not stopping and they, they shouldn't, they're doing incredible stuff. So we like to check in with them. So guys, what is going on with our band show this week?
[00:23:10] Speaker G: Thank you very much BJ and welcome in to our band show. Patrick W. Huber here, producer and director for an amazing team of recording artists aimed to film musicians in the Hudson Valley area and beyond.
Wickham Falls released their newest song Baby Tooth to all streaming services this week. We have a simple goal in mind and that's to spotlight this pretty cool Hudson Valley rock band.
We're just going to let the music do all the talking.
Ever since their session on the show, we've been getting a great dose of their storytelling. We want to thank Brooke, Connor, Nigel and Joey for their amazing performance and we hope you'll dig their music too.
That is why this week we are spotlighting a double feature from Wickham Falls Maggie followed by their song Baby Tooth recorded live on our band show.
[00:24:24] Speaker B: Sa.
[00:25:01] Speaker H: Maggie is the host of the only parties I attend.

[00:32:22] Speaker G: Another amazing week of Fantastic music.
I hope you'll check out the full videos of this week's spotlighted artist on the YouTube channel and check out some clips from our past guest on the Instagram, both at our band show.
Also, for a catalog of our full sessions, check out our website, ourbandshow.com with another fantastic weekend ahead. That's all the music I have to share with you and bj. I just want to send it back to you.
[00:32:51] Speaker C: All right, Thanks a lot, man. That was fucking great. As usual, you come to expect nothing but the best from these guys every week, and they absolutely deliver.
And, you know, don't forget, you can. They're on Facebook, Instagram, our bandshow.com and YouTube. Any one of these things you can just go into and it'll show you what they're doing, what they've done, what they've got planned for the future. They take the bands that you know and love. They take the bands you haven't had a chance to listen to yet, and they give them the rockstar treatment they deserve. And it's incredible to listen to, and it's incredible to watch. I love it. It's. It's either, you know, balls to the wall of fantastic or just warms your heart. Warms your heart on how these people get treated because everybody busts their ass in this industry.
So great stuff. So, guys, thank you. I really appreciate it. And now we are moving on into Metroland. So Metro Land now is hot single in your area. It's a list compiled every month by T.J. foster of Eerie fame and more.
And so hot singles in your area used to be like a dating thing on the original Metroland forever ago.
And TJ took it and turned into something that's just kind of cheeky and fun and kitschy.
So this hot single in your area this week, I decided to go with Shannon Tea, whose show got canceled with Lucas Garrett last week, which sucks, because I was really looking forward to all the things they had in store because it sounded like it was going to be amazing. And hopefully they'll be able to recharge that and put it back into gear soon.
I decided to go with Shannon this week, and this song is a beautiful song. It's well written. It's.
It invokes a lot of emotion and it tells great stories. So this is Shannon Teja and Soldiers Last Goodbye.
[00:34:49] Speaker F: Pieces of memories keep dancing through my mind the times you were here the things you left behind the guitar in my hand One time felt your touch the sun and the soldier still love so Much moments gone forever yet so many times we play I miss the boy and the soldier written in the notes I play you you slipped away from me not given the reason why Once a child in his mother's arms now his soldier's last goodbye
[00:36:02] Speaker B: Me, Your
[00:36:17] Speaker F: footsteps still I know in the places
[00:36:23] Speaker B: that I know I close my eyes
[00:36:30] Speaker F: and I see your face but my
[00:36:33] Speaker B: heart won't let go.
[00:36:43] Speaker F: Moments gone forever to man fully grown there's no explanation for his name carved
[00:37:02] Speaker B: in stone the people who loved you
[00:37:11] Speaker F: were not given the reason why
[00:37:17] Speaker B: when was a child in his mother's arms and was closer.
[00:37:46] Speaker C: All right, that was soldiers last goodbye from Shannon Tea.
You know, if you shed some tears on that one, no one's. No one's gonna give you about it because I'm pretty sure everybody.
I think it jostles loose some of those.
Some of those emotions. So if you're not used to having them and it makes you cry, it's okay, just keep going. Emotions are good. They help you live.
And you know, Metroland now, don't forget Metroland now is.
Is so good. It gives you so much information.
People really work their asses off to make it what it's become. And it was resurrected and it's a beautiful thing. So, you know, you can do Facebook, Instagram, themitroland.com doesn't matter where you go, they have got you. You know, if you're looking to see what's going on, if you're trying to see, you know, hey, what's going on this week, month, you know, whatever day, you know, I want to look for a band I've never listened to before. They got you, don't worry. Just go to the metroland.com and you know, you're good. And don't forget physical copies. You know, they were here, then they were gone. God damn it. And then they came back. They were resurrected. By the triumphant of people was Aaron Harks, TJ Foster and Andy Scullin. They helped bring it back. So we are eternally grateful from them. And now, you know, got a lot of people working there and they are, they're putting their all into it. It's a beautiful thing. So don't forget in those pages lies a ton of hard work from people that really, really love their local area. And it shows. And if you can't find a copy near you, you know, it's in a lot of places, but it's not everywhere yet. It's getting there. Just go to contact us. We'll let you know. And if you want to start carrying in your business, or you want to suggest it to a business, just go to the metroland.com, scroll all the way to the bottom and just, you know, start carrying the Metro land here. Click on here. Fill out your information, Boom, you're good to go. It's nice, it's easy, it's simple, it's lovely. It lets people know you give a shit about your home.
And, you know, also, don't forget, you've got Mitch, you've got the other podcasts, you've got the other podcasts, you have Mistress of none. You have two normal people. You have unsigned 518, and they're all wonderful. Everybody really puts their own to the podcast too, and they're so good. And especially, like, you've got so much to dig into with these things, you know, like two normal people. That's. That's a newer one. Angelina Valente really is doing what you can. It's always fun to listen to. But, you know, overall, as far as the Metroland podcast, there's so much to go into. You can just dig into some really, really deep dives and just get in there with some. You know, you hear some bands you haven't heard of in forever, and sometimes it was the last time you heard them because they broke up and stuff like that. So there's a lot of history, a lot of local musical history in these podcasts, too. So make sure to check them out.
And that is it for me. I will talk to you next week. Thank you so much for once again letting me talk in your ear, letting me show you some music that maybe you haven't had a chance to hear before. Or you go, oh, man, I love that song. And you just sing right along either way. I hope you really enjoy it. I enjoy doing it. And I will see you. Yeah, I'll talk to you next week. All right, everybody, be good. Take care of yourselves. Enjoy the weekend. We all deserve it. And as usual, you stay cool. 518.
[00:41:01] Speaker B: I'm calling shotgun.
Where's the party tonight?
Let's take a ride. Been swinging for driving.
[00:41:17] Speaker C: It's the Weekend Spotlight.
[00:41:25] Speaker B: Get ready.
