Hopefully I will be thanking you for that for years to come. That would be really, really nice. Hey, what's going on everybody? Welcome to another episode of Unsigned 518's Weekend Spotlight. I'm your host, BJ Swinghammer. And yes, that is my real name. And you know, we're just gonna go right into it today. It's not the busiest week for local music being played out in the public right now, but I'm just gonna go ahead and put another song on the Swinghammer's pick of the week. People haven't seemed to have a problem with it yet and there's no reason to stop now. But before you know, we, we get ahead of ourselves here. I have a little something that I would like to tell you guys about a show with Shannon Teja and Lucas Garrett. It's gonna be at the Strand theater on the 20th at 7:30pm but you know what? There's two people out there that can explain it way better than myself and that is Lucas and Shannon. [00:01:43] Speaker A: Hi, I'm Lucas Garrett. And I'm Shannon Tea. And we are getting really excited for our release show at the strand Theater on February 20th at 7:30pm the show serves to unve brand new work from both Lucas and myself in an evening built around Discovery, connection and live performance. Here is a snippet of my sign this again. So wondering what we want to do. Tickets are $15 for the balcony and $20 for general admission. And you can find more information about the show at www.mystrandtheater.org. [00:02:44] Speaker B: All right, that is going to be an awesome show. I love the Strand Theater anyways, but when I have a, you know, somebody like Lucas playing and Shannon playing with such a new concept that it sounds like it's gonna be happening there, it is exciting and you should definitely make it once again. That's at the Strand theater on the 20th of this month at 7:30. $15 balcony and $20 for general admission. So get on it people. I'm gonna be bringing this up a few times a get used to that cuz B. It's gonna be awesome and you should go. Alright, so moving forward from that awesomeness, we are going into a different kind of awesomeness which is known as Schwinghammer's Pick of the week is what I'm still calling this. Maybe one day I'll think of a more clever name for it. Right now, that's what it is. You know, I am honored to be able to play a new single from Gozer. You know, it's Gozer. I love those guys. I always love playing their music with a great group of guys. They play some fantastic metal. And this one just came out. This one is time warp. [00:04:04] Speaker A: Rolling fog in a violet twilight welcome to Wizard Hot Days. Helps them see clearly that corona head is right with breath forever searching for. Sunny and ancient to. Looking for a way to cheat the hourglass 100 lifetimes deep no turning back Walking through time. Sounds infinity calling Walking through time. Those two dangerous dimensions open before him Reflections of distant real all left behind his name now forgotten Lost in the ages Omniscience has its bright accost of mortal King of the pain forever between you and fire. Scouring dark rim wild. That's the point of no return. For just another dead. The wheels been down ad nauseam out of destroy. Walking through time for endless seance Infinity calling Walking through town. Walking through time. [00:09:03] Speaker B: All right, that was the new single from Gozer. That was Time Walk. Thanks a lot, guys, for letting me play that on the show. It's a fucking awesome song. You guys are a fucking awesome band. And I can't wait to see what you guys do in the future. Just keep putting out stuff like you've been putting out and, man, you know, the future is gonna be bright for you guys. And you know what? As far as a bright future, I also seen one for Carm Grasso. Now I have. I put him on the show a few weeks ago. The guy is an insane guitarist. I decided that I. I just wanted to put him on. I wanted to put him on again. I wanted to put him on this week. And he put out that album Seed of Doubt last year. I'm just gonna play another song off of it. And this one, oddly enough, is called Seed of Doubt. [00:11:42] Speaker A: It's. All right. [00:13:41] Speaker B: That was Seed of Doubt off of Seed of Doubt, which is last year's album from Karm Grass. Carm, you rock, man. I love it. That's a great album. If you guys haven't had a chance to listen to it yet. First of all, we've already been through this once. You should have listened to it. Second of all, fucking listen to it. [00:13:59] Speaker A: Just stop. [00:13:59] Speaker B: Just like after the. [00:14:00] Speaker A: After. [00:14:01] Speaker B: After the show, after the episode, go listen to it. You'll thank me. You'll thank him. And you know, he'll definitely have another. Another fan under his belt. Anyways, all right, enough fanboying here today at no fun at 7pm You've got the Scurves, you've got Huntress Wizard, Gay, Tasty, and Pliers. And you know what? No Fun is always just doing something. Ever since they took it over and they've been just at it like, damn near seven days a week. There's always something going on. It's always something awesome. You know, if you guys are listening, you're amazing. Just keep going. Keep doing what you're doing. Especially when you have a show like this. I mean, the Skirt, Huntress Wizard. I mean, those guys are incredible. Gay, Tasty and Pliers. Come on. Why wouldn't you go? And you're gonna go, I. You know, I'm gonna be playing the Scurves because I love the fucking Scurves. They put out an album last year called A Place to Drown, and I played a couple songs off of that. I'm gonna play another one. And this is playing it. [00:15:13] Speaker A: You change their behavior. While they burn down the motherfucking H. Unclear why. Sitting on the back of a flatbed. Shit. [00:18:33] Speaker B: All right, that was Playing it Loud from the Scurves. They are playing tonight at 7pm at no Fun in Troy. Go listen to them. It's going to be a badass show. It's got a great lineup. You would be a fool. A fool indeed to not go to that show. And a fool indeed if you haven't checked out our band show. It's one of my favorite segments, and I love our band show. They do some incredible work. They do incredible work for incredible people that are working their asses off to bring you music and your, you know, your local environment, you know, so they take people that you love or people you haven't had a chance to listen to yet. They give them the rockstar treatment, whether it be just, you know, on a podcast or just. They put them up on YouTube and just do a whole show and just make them look as awesome as they are. I enjoy it very much. I enjoy them very much. And I like to check with them every week just to see what's going on. So, guys, what is going on with our band show this week? [00:19:28] Speaker C: Thank you, bj, and welcome in to our band show. Patrick W. Huber here, producer and director of an amazing team of recording artists that aims to film musicians in the Hudson Valley area and beyond. Puck's and Tawny. Phil did in fact, see His Shadow this past Monday. And the Pine boys released their 10th studio album Wet House. Not sure if their Groundhog Day tie in is somehow linked to the song Pet Connection, but I feel Animal Lovers were properly marketed to Congratulations are in order for a job well done. A solid album that has been invading my ears all week. Speaking of new music in a blink of an eye and I missed it type of fashion. Kingston, New York based singer songwriter Jack Manley released a new EP in December of last year. I stumbled upon it when I was thinking of songs to spotlight and his style stood out in my mind. His music honors atmospheric texture while pursuing harsher angular sound. A clash of high and low brow. Jack is no stranger to music either. Some former projects he was a part of include Cosmonaut, the Jennifer Shop and Spires. Jack Manley was very open with us during his interview, told us of his early days and how being surrounded by talented musicians helped him flourish. He also told us of some darker times and how music opened a pathway to recovery. [00:20:55] Speaker D: That was my first, first time. Yeah, so I, I started pretty late. I started in college, essentially. I mean I just remember, I remember being in the Fordham dorms. I remember, you know, working so hard to just like try to have any sort of coordination or anything. I was just so bad, you know, I was so green, as they say. But I had so much drive and it worked, you know. And also I have to say, particularly with Cosmonaut, I was surrounded by a bunch of a group of guys who were really, really good, like really masters of their musicians, just like my current band. So that sort of helped, I think develop me rapidly. But yeah, no, it's great. I mean, for instance, now, right, I have no sort of formal education or background with music. It's completely intu approach and self taught, whereas Billy here is classically trained. So it's a nice, I think those two worlds colliding, complement each other creatively essentially. So yeah, Smack, water, tightrope, life, save your own and Unmeasurable Terms. So our debut episode, which is out now, Unmeasurable Terms. All of those songs were written while I was recovering from two overdoses and hospitalized in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. basically had quit playing music. You know, pawned or gave away a lot of most of my gear. And while I was there, there was, you know, I found a broken four string guitar and basically other patients were bored and wanted entertainment so they encouraged me to play and you know, I started to play for them. And then, you know, it sort of escalated from there. Like I remember writing, I remember writing Smackwater and turning around and after performing it in a cafeteria and like five people were crying, it was just pretty surreal. [00:23:27] Speaker C: Sometimes moving forward is hard to do. And with each milestone, we get further along our journey through life. I think we can all relate to the work it takes to progress our skills and knowledge as a human being. Today, I want to spotlight personal growth. And that is why this week I have chosen Jack Manley's Miles and Miles Away, recorded live on our band show. [00:23:57] Speaker A: I got time Time to let the future die Never mind I'm at peace about it Save yourself don't be weird just ask for help I love you. The past takes over at least I'm sober. I found you miles and miles away from our home it's not mine, it's not mine anymore. Looking for you don't deny the sick you're in Let them see how the your future works out your future's works How I found you Miles and miles away from our home it's not mine, it's not anymore? I found you miles and miles away from our home it's not mine, it's not mine anymore. If you want apologize I can make you understand it's not your fault though you know you break my heart sa. Still in high school Queen of the dead Let your narcissism shine through A lo in your heart Cause you think you're still in high school Queen of Adele Let your no shine through. Sam. Oh, man. [00:27:31] Speaker C: Another amazing performance. I hope you'll check out all the full videos of this week's spotlighted artist on our YouTube channel. He posts a link for you to listen to, you know, on metroland.com. this month, however, he was really, really busy, so we had Andy Scullin, who is the perfect person to do reviews for music. Everything is fine Fire o fire I can see it in your eyes get up and go to work Heavy, oh heavy is the weight of the world I've seen this before Many times before when is enough? When is it enough? As you swallow when the world drown when is enough. I can't take it anymore I can't take it anymore It's a jagged built to swallow when. [00:32:48] Speaker B: Sorrow all right, that was Enough is Enough from Nocturn, their newest single. That is the hot single in your area this week. And you know what? We're getting towards the end. It was resurrected by Aaron Harks, T.J. foster, Andy Scullen. They helped bring the Metroland back to us, and we are forever thankful. And it's gotten to the point where there's so many people on staff, you know, working their asses off, blood, sweat and tears in those pages.
