[00:00:00] Speaker A: Hey, it's Andy. Before we get started, I just wanted to let you know, or rather remind you that unsigned five one eight and shortwave radio band did a collaboration with poison noises. We did the pork pie, and the pork pie is. It's a big muff and it is a muff pie, both combined into one pedal. So you can get both of those classic pedals with just a toggle switch in between them. So it's two pedals in one and it's the pork pie. It's available now. If you're interested, just send me a DM through Instagram and we will make it happen. All right, on with the show. [00:00:40] Speaker B: He was born on a Saturday in. [00:00:42] Speaker C: 73 in the park. [00:00:44] Speaker B: Rock music on the big guitar with the short with radio. [00:01:06] Speaker A: Welcome to unsigned five one eight weekend spotlight. My name is Andy Scullen and I am your host. What I'm going to do is just break down a couple of events happening in the five one eight this weekend, maybe two or three things so that you can kind of get an idea of what's happening. I'll play some tunes from some of the events that I'll talk about. And this week I actually have Amy modesty checking in with Amy's top picks. She does around town with Amy modesty, which you can check out. She puts that out every week. And I'll get to that later in the show. So we'll have Amy's top picks, we'll have a couple other events, I'll play some songs and. Yeah, it'll be great. So let's go. So the first event is a Mardi Gras show with the Nolanauts, and that is at Frog Alley Brewing. And obviously, if you're going to have a Mardi Gras show, you might as well have the Nolanauts. They're absolutely made for it. Tom, obviously a friend of mine from Jive Hive and has done so much to help the band and the podcast. And actually episode one of unsigned five one eight going all the way back 100 and some OD episodes was recorded with Mikey Bash at Jive Hive. So I go way back with those guys, and the band has recorded singles there and an ep and a video, and we've done a lot with them, so we really dig them. And I implore you to get out and check out the Mardi Gras show with Nolan Otz. That is Friday. It's at 08:30 p.m. At Frog Alley Brewing. And I was talking to Tom O'Connor today and he actually sent me over a sneak peek at the new Nolanaut single that's not even out yet. It's their upcoming single. It's called neutral Ground, and I'm going to play it right here as yet again. A world premiere on sign five one eight. Weekend spotlight. So how cool is that? So this is neutral ground. Nolan Otts. [00:03:03] Speaker E: We'll be right back. [00:03:39] Speaker F: Mardi Gras coming around I said, baby, what you want to do? [00:07:11] Speaker F: Ground squeezy avenue jump ball, neutral ground catch a music shoe slide off future ground marching up the rain. [00:08:18] Speaker A: That was Nolanott with neutral ground, and that is an as yet unreleased single. Make sure you follow Nolanauts on all the socials and Spotify and apple music and wherever you get music so that you can be aware of that single when it drops. All right, so next up on Saturday, February 10, we have Yort and adequate fill. They're going to be playing at unified beer works in Malta. And both bands have been out here to the dazzle den and have appeared on unsigned five one eight. So you should go listen to those episodes. But what we're going to do now is I'm actually going to play a song from both York and adequate Phil so you can get an idea. If you're not familiar with the bands, you can hear what they sound like, help you make an informed decision to go out and see them at unified beer works in Malta. So we're going to start off with an adequate fill song. This is their latest single and this one is called Limes and it's on the weekend. Spotlight on unsigned 5180. [00:09:34] Speaker D: Satches by Quick Christmas I let up, burn the ashes, the past can't that scratch the edge don't want an aid chopping up wa get it jumping. [00:12:08] Speaker A: All right, so that was adequate fill with limes and this next one from York. I'm almost guaranteed to fuck up the pronunciation on this. It is Ozzy Mandias cast down. I don't know. We'll see if I did that. Okay. Ozzy Mandius cast down. It's Yort on weekend spotlight on unsigned five. [00:13:20] Speaker D: You curse the road be guilty. [00:13:29] Speaker C: Until this world interior. [00:13:35] Speaker D: Wow. [00:13:39] Speaker C: Man. [00:13:42] Speaker D: In the desert Lambo. [00:13:51] Speaker C: Just search for ground where I was at. [00:14:10] Speaker D: Wake. [00:14:52] Speaker C: But understanding that the nation where I was at my throat I want. [00:17:37] Speaker D: The king of king. [00:17:41] Speaker C: Now I'm left with only my demon when the spirit. [00:17:51] Speaker E: Will think you all right, so now. [00:17:56] Speaker A: We are going to check in with Amy modesty of around town with Amy modesty around town with Amy Modesty is a news and media website showcasing the capital region, New York, happenings and beyond from photojournalist Amy Modesty. And Amy has been so kind as to send me a couple of her top picks, which we will go over now. So here are Amy's top picks. Visit mud Daddy flats in Troy, New York because after eleven years of being in business, owners Dan and Melissa Freeman are closing their quesadilla and taco business on Saturday, February 10. So come and dine at Mud daddy Flats and send your goodbyes to Dan, Melissa and the staff. And we have new business, Sabora Caribbeano putting up a pop up event supporting local businesses at the restaurant in Troy. That's 228 4th street in Troy and that is on Saturday, February 10 from 11:00 a.m. To 05:00 p.m. So you can say goodbye to one restaurant and welcome another one on the same day in Troy. All right, and this next one I'm really excited for. On Sunday the 11th, it's John Spencer with the Abysmals at no fun. And I caught the Abysmals for the first time last week with greetings and sugar hold at electric Grinch in Schenectady. And I had heard their music. I actually played premiered one of their songs last week on the weekend spotlight. So I was familiar with their music, but it really didn't compare to seeing them live. There was something about the energy that they brought live that really took everything up a notch. I'm someone who absolutely loves a live band and the Abysmals were a band that really brought it so certainly has, you know, his following and the reasons to go because John Spencer Blues explosion has been around forever and I mean, they're absolutely legends in their own right. But for my money, the abysmals opening up is what really allures me to this. So John Spencer with the Abysmals, it's at no fun and it's on Sunday, begins at 07:00 so this last one I'm beyond excited for, and that's because I get to personally participate. So the band, I'm in shortwave radio band. We are doing a live stream for our band show and if you're not familiar with our band show, it's kind of like what it sounds like. It's people that put on a band show and the band comes on and it's part interview, part live performance. We're doing, I believe, eight songs, eight original songs. So it's a little bit of an interview and then we'll play some songs, a little more of an interview. We'll talk about probably the origin of some of the songs, the origin of how the band came together. It's such a cool thing that they're doing. And I know like our friends in Erie have done one, our friends in the snorts have done one. And you can check those out, even though it is a live stream, they also, after the fact, they package up a couple of smaller little segments that they put out. So if you go to their YouTube channel or ourbandshow.com, you can see all the past episodes and kind of see how it works. But it's going to be 100% live at 07:30 p.m. This Saturday. And we are super excited for it. So we hope you tune in again. It's our band show or you can find it on YouTube. Our band show over at YouTube. So again, check it out on Saturday. It's going to be super cool. Shortwave radio band does our band show this Saturday, 07:30 p.m. 100% live. So I guess that's it for today's show. I want to thank everybody for listening. The support has been really great with the restart of the show. I guess I hope you're liking the kind of bonus programming like the weekend spotlight and just things that I put out kind of when I get a whim too. I hope it's not too much for everybody. And again, can't thank you enough. I see the numbers, I can see kind of what regions are listening, and the support has been overwhelming. So I thank you so much. If there's any events that you would like to see mentioned on any upcoming episodes of unsigned five one eight weekend spotlight, best way to get in touch with me, honestly, is to send me a DM through Instagram. I refer to Instagram as my mobile office because I have more notifications set up on Instagram that I do, even with texts. Like, you could call me and I wouldn't hear it. But if you send me an Instagram message, I'll get it loud and clear. So if you have any events or you want to be on the show, or you have somebody you think should be on the show, or you just want to send me a message and say hi, Instagram is certainly the best. [00:23:20] Speaker F: Way to do it. [00:23:21] Speaker A: So I am Andy Scullen. This is unsigned five one eight weekend spotlights, and I'll see you on the road.
