[00:00:00] Speaker A: Welcome to unsigned 518 Weekend Spotlight for the weekend of April 18, 2025. Got a little bit of a special episode this week. I have a extended sit down with Allison from MB Farm and 400 river, their dispensary in Troy. Going to talk about an event coming up this weekend and also going to check in with Patrick and Christian of our band show. And that's going to kind of be the whole show. We'll check in with Christian and Patrick and then it's a great interview with Alison. So I guess without further ado, let's get started. [00:00:39] Speaker B: Andy Scullin is such a good dude, the kind of guy that it's easy to talk to. He's got some cool stuff he'd like to share with you. [00:00:47] Speaker C: Yeah, you. [00:00:48] Speaker B: It's the weekend. You know what you should do? It's the weekend. Spotlight. The weekend. Alright, we get spotlight outside. 51 8. [00:00:57] Speaker A: All right. So right up first we're just gonna jump right in and check in with Christian and Patrick at our band show. They have another band that they want to spotlight for us, play a song, a little bit of an interview. So let's check in with Christian and Patrick. [00:01:11] Speaker C: Thank you, Andy, and welcome into our band show. We're right in the middle of post production of episode 27 featuring Inlet. We're posting videos on our YouTube channel discussing the band's many influences. Will Wood and the Tapeworms, Pink Floyd and Black Country New Road, to name a few. With such an eclectic taste in music, Inlet has a wide range of great acts to pull inspiration from, including their debut single, Black Horse Lake, that started off with a late night scroll session by lead singer Levi. Basically you were talking about that phantom hitchhiker with Black Horse Lake. Why don't you just go ahead and jump in and tell us about the meaning of that song. [00:01:49] Speaker D: Well, I mentioned that me and Matt met in guitar class and we came up with this. Those opening chords, opening riff, kind of. And that same night I was laying in bed, late night, late night scroll, you know? You know what I mean? And came across a video about like phantom hitchhikers. And one of them was about this tale of this hitchhiker who said, like, haunt Black Horse Lake, where like people are driving by late at night. Like how a hypnosis and hitchhiker hits their windshield and they get out and he's not there. So when I was thinking about what to write, I kind of thought about that and we decided to like write almost about his backstory. So that's how it kind of came into what it was. [00:02:29] Speaker C: It's great to hear that not every social media experience evolves into an endless doom scroll. Sometimes it can inspire a band to create a solid piece. Chris and I are extremely excited about Inlet's performance on the show. For us, recording multiple camera angles and all the microphone stems of the band allows us to share in the creative process as we chase a great fidelity for our video and audio recordings. To be honest, it is the collaborative process that allows the creative skills of all those involved to shine that makes producing a live music show worthwhile. With all that said, this week we want to spotlight our mastered recording of Inlet's fantastic debut single Black Horse Lake. [00:03:33] Speaker B: Now he's heading back there to that dead old for guess you just go back in nostalgically record about the time she played with Mountain with time to spend Come on gentlemen help me float away sit open skies on 39 of mind float away he brought in parts Eric's just try to fit in Smoked a couple grams and gets legs a bouncing and all alone Mountain and peace I'm moving toward the mountain of breathing in the smokes somehow and still. [00:05:36] Speaker A: And. [00:05:36] Speaker B: Still the mountain is. [00:07:48] Speaker C: Such an amazing performance. The video for Black Horse Leg is available now on our YouTube channel. At our band show every Monday and Friday throughout April, we'll be posting another mastered recording of the New Jersey Surf Rock Band, so check it out. Additionally, we have posted an article of Inlet on our website ourband show.com no matter how you enjoy the music that is on our show, we look forward to rocking out with you. Andy, back to you. [00:08:16] Speaker A: Thank you so much and make sure you check out our band show on Instagram, ourbandshow.com and YouTube. They're fantastic, fantastic guys doing a really great thing and there may even be a little something unsigned 518 is doing with them on a broader scale than just the weekend spotlight. So keep an eye out for that. All right, so right now we're just gonna jump right into it and go to my conversation with Allison from MB Farm. There's an event coming up this weekend. There's an event coming up next month. She's involved with both of them. I'm involved with both of them. So I guess let's just get right into it and check out my conversation with Alison from MB Farm. I'll be right back. Welcome to unsigned 518. Kind of like a special episode every time Alison comes around. So I'm here with Allison of MB Farm. How's it going? [00:09:17] Speaker E: It is going so well Andy, thank you. [00:09:19] Speaker A: And you know, we were talking before we got going, I was like, I don't even know how to classify these episodes because it's, you know, we're talking, do we put music in? Do we not put music again? And then at the last second, I decided we're just going to talk and then that'll be the episode. And I think that'll be good enough for everybody because we've got cool shit to talk about. Not just weed, but, you know, weed will be in there. [00:09:45] Speaker E: A lot of weed. [00:09:46] Speaker A: A lot of weed. So I think the first thing that we want to talk about is an event that's coming up as this episode airs. It'll be this Sunday, right? Correct. Sunday Easter. And 4:20 is going to be the, the highest Easter ever. But there's an event that I'm actually going to be emceeing and it's at my favorite place with my favorite people. So I guess tell everybody what event I'm talking about. [00:10:15] Speaker E: We are talking about High Tide. This is going to be a 420 spectacular with three awesome bands. We've got the Sugar hold, the Jagaloons and Beach Bodies. So I'm personally excited because I love surf music and I love the Sugar hold and it's going to be amazing. So I'm super excited about that. We're going to have great beverages from Single Cut and we're going to be there with some giveaways from MB Farm. Non cannabis giveaways. [00:10:47] Speaker A: Yeah, and let's, let's talk about that, you know, because obviously rules change like all the time. Like that's why like fucking every time you come on it's like, well what, 30 rules have changed since six months ago when you were last. So it's non cannabis giveaway. So I'm assuming it's you know, lighters and rolling trays and T shirts and T shirts. Okay. [00:11:10] Speaker E: They still haven't gotten me a T shirt. Cannon, you gotta get a T shirt. Can. I'll try to work on that by this weekend. But we will be having cannabis for. [00:11:21] Speaker A: A sale and the way it. It'll be like a you guys do delivery, right? [00:11:27] Speaker E: Absolutely. [00:11:28] Speaker A: So is that kind of how this is going to be set up, like a delivery or are you going to actually be there on site with. With cannabis? [00:11:36] Speaker E: Right now we're thinking that we'll be there on site with a small selection of certain things that we feel like would fit the needs of the party. But people can always pre order. So if you want, we'll bring your Order to the party for you. Yeah, you just prepay for it and everything. [00:11:53] Speaker A: But that's either way, that's the way to go. And you can do that right? [00:11:56] Speaker E: Probably right through your website, 400rivertroy.com. Yes. [00:12:00] Speaker A: Yeah, and. And speaking like, we'll get back to the event, but so 400 river is right there in like the heart of Troy. And for those that don't know, it's like, I mean, I think the most perfectly located storefront in almost all of Troy. So you guys have been there how long now? [00:12:21] Speaker E: We opened in August, I believe, so we're coming up on a year. You know, time flies. [00:12:29] Speaker A: By the end of summer it'll be. [00:12:30] Speaker E: Well, not really, but. [00:12:31] Speaker A: Well, I mean, close enough. [00:12:32] Speaker E: Close enough. [00:12:33] Speaker A: It's on its way to a year. I was literally gonna say like, what? It's been about a year, year and a half. So I was fucking way off too, because remember, I was there. What, open, I think. Or was it the day after? No, I think it was opening day. [00:12:48] Speaker E: I don't know, I don't remember. [00:12:49] Speaker A: Yeah, neither do I. Yeah, it makes sense. So, all right, back to. Back to the. The event. And so cannabis on site. We've got Sugar Hold, Jagaloons and Beachbody. Have you seen Jaguars before? [00:13:05] Speaker E: I have not, but I heard that they're going to be playing at the Surfer Joe Festival in Livorno, Italy this summer. And I love Surfer Joe and I'm just so psyched that they are going to be going over there and playing at his festival and I'm pumped for them. [00:13:23] Speaker A: Yeah, those dudes are awesome. Like we played with them at Hangar on the Hudson. But I actually. Their newest, latest album, Forbidden Words, I have a assigned vinyl from the. From the band in the other room, like, and that was something I didn't even know was coming. It just showed up at my house one day and I was like, oh, what's this? And I open it up and I'm like, holy. And I like texted Jeff and I'm like, wow, this is awesome. Thanks guys. Yeah, Jaguars are awesome. Beach bodies are awesome. Sugar hold, obviously. And actually we've. I've played with all three of those bands. [00:13:56] Speaker E: Nice. [00:13:57] Speaker A: Yeah, so I can vouch. And they all fit the vibe too. [00:14:01] Speaker E: Exactly. Exactly. [00:14:03] Speaker A: At what time? It's a evening thing, an afternoon thing. [00:14:08] Speaker E: If I'm not mistaken. I believe that music starts at 4:20. [00:14:11] Speaker A: Oh, nice. Oh wait, yeah, you're right. I think it says that on the poster. Perfect 420 app. 420, doesn't it? [00:14:20] Speaker E: That makes it Very easy for everybody. [00:14:22] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:14:22] Speaker E: Yes. [00:14:22] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:14:23] Speaker E: Yes. [00:14:23] Speaker A: 420. At 420. And it's what, Beachbody's first? [00:14:29] Speaker E: I don't know. [00:14:30] Speaker A: You don't know? [00:14:30] Speaker E: Their lineup would make sense. [00:14:33] Speaker A: Beach Bodies, I'm guessing. Beach Bodies into Jags into Sugar Hole. [00:14:38] Speaker E: I think that's my bet also. [00:14:42] Speaker A: I might be wrong. But anyway, I'll be there. And I'm emceeing it, and I'm not even 100% sure what. What that's going to look like, you know, like. But. But that's how I. I like to roll. I'm like, what am I emceeing? Just. But, you know, I'll be like, the hype man. [00:14:59] Speaker E: Exactly. [00:15:00] Speaker A: In between. In between artists. And then I'll convince everybody to smoke joints. To me out in the parking lot. [00:15:07] Speaker E: I think that sounds like a good idea. [00:15:09] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah, yeah. That. That's going to be my role. So each band, it'll get a little more interesting. What I say when I get up, get up on stage. So, and how did this, like, come together? Was this something that you approached the bands or the bands approach you to come into it? [00:15:27] Speaker E: No. [00:15:28] Speaker A: Single cut. [00:15:29] Speaker E: No, this was actually the. The sugar hold got in touch with me. And this is going to be similar to last year's weed stock. Right, so. Which was awesome. Which was awesome. So we had to do it again. It just. It makes so much sense for us to participate in something like this because we love to, you know, support local music for Troy and get out there, meet new people and also bring cannabis awareness and education to folks who may not ever stop in the dispensary. [00:16:04] Speaker A: Right. Or, you know, definitely taking that stigma out of it. I mean, it is still there. You know what I mean? Like, it is like. And I mean, even, like, you know, I'm 50. What am I? 51. I'll be. I'll be 52. But like, my parents generation, like, my parents fucking specifically. Actually, not even. I guess I don't want to talk generationally. My parents specifically, like, looked at cannabis as just, like, you know, like it was heroin or something. Like, there was no difference between it. Like, you do one, you do one, and you're steamrolling into the other. Like, you're. You know, it was like there was no delineation between what was harmless and what could kill you. Like, they were basically, like, they're the same thing. And since I was younger, I've always been like. Like I said, my asthma, my. My asthma has, like, since I was, you know, in my late teens. And started smoking cannabis gotten just leaps and bounds better. Like, when I was 12, I could barely run like 50 yards without having an asthma attack. And now at 51, I can barely run 50 yards, like, at all. But, like, hypothetically say that I could. I think my lungs could handle it a lot. [00:17:23] Speaker E: We'll start training for that. [00:17:26] Speaker A: The 50 yard dash. It's a once in a lifetime thing for me. No, but I mean, you know, cannabis, like, helps my asthma, like, without a doubt, like, and you know, so my parents never understood that. And it was always just like this evil thing. So I love that the legality of it is allowing the stigma to be lifted. [00:17:51] Speaker E: Absolutely. [00:17:52] Speaker A: I guess. Even though it's gonna certainly take some time. [00:17:55] Speaker E: It will. When I grew up, I was in dare, and it really prepared me for a lot of what I'm doing now. A lot of good base knowledge. No, but, you know, even I had that perception of cannabis when I was growing up, that the next step was absolutely death and destruction. [00:18:17] Speaker A: Yeah, certainly when I was young, you know, like when I was like 14, I didn't start smoking weed until I was 19. Like I was out of high school. [00:18:25] Speaker E: Same here. [00:18:25] Speaker A: I never did. Or maybe I might have once in high. But like, back then, and it was just funny because it was like we were 15 years old drinking Natty Lights, you know, in a treehouse behind the school or whatever. And like, that was fine. Like, you know, but like, in our perception, drinking was totally fine and totally harmless because our parents did it, you know, like, you saw people that did it, you saw it advertised. It was just commonly accepted. And we thought that, like you said that you smoke weed and it's just this spiral. Yeah, it was this spiral into being unproductive and not being able to think and doing harder drugs and. And man, I'm fucking pissed at the 70s and 80s, you know, I'm like, like, if I had known about. If I'd have known about weed in high school and like the, you know, like, I could have concentrated on some shit because looking back, I probably should have been medicated. Like, I was a very short attention span. Like, Like, I don't now, you know what I mean? Like, I've got this lengthy attention span now, but when I was like, in high school, my attention span was terrible. And like, even things that, like, I wanted to learn about, like, I couldn't, you know, like, because I was just constantly looking at what that person's doing, what that person's doing. What. What was that noise? What's that movement? You know? [00:19:59] Speaker E: I'm the opposite now. [00:20:01] Speaker A: Now. Yeah, if I like, if I want to like absorb something, like I'll smoke a joint and watch a documentary and I will literally not even look at my phone for three hours. Just absorb the information. So I don't know. That's my, my pro weed speech. But. So we have 4, 4:20, Easter Sunday. You know, Easter's whatever it is. But you know, 420 is an actual holiday that means something to me. So come out to Single Cut. I'm. I'm obviously going to be there. I'm just. It's better than an Easter dinner for sure. But you could have Easter dinner early and then get to single cut by 4:20. Right. [00:20:46] Speaker E: Or later, if I'm not mistaken. Pretty Pig Provisions is going to be there also. [00:20:51] Speaker A: Yes, there you go. Have Easter dinner at Single Cut, which is what I'm gonna do. [00:20:56] Speaker E: Right. So you'll get your Easter ham. [00:20:59] Speaker A: Maybe. Maybe. Yeah. It's a pig. It works. Whatever it is. Even if it was like pulled pork, it's still. [00:21:04] Speaker E: Either way, it's gonna be so tasty. [00:21:06] Speaker A: Yeah. Going to be fucking delicious. But you know, you were saying Sugar Hole had reached out to you and brought you in. And it was just so funny because at this very same time on a, on a different, different communication channel, I was talking to Teresa and Corey at Single Cut about Andy Palooza 3. And also talking to Mikey about 419 or 420. Excuse me. And I was like, oh, I wonder if, I wonder if Allison would want to get involved with any Palooza 3 as well. And at that same time I texted you and then you said, oh, go yourself. And that's the end. No, you said, you said, you know, yeah, of course we'll get involved. So we're. We're what? Basically doing the same ish setup at Andy Palooza 3 as you're doing. [00:22:03] Speaker E: Correct. [00:22:04] Speaker A: On 420, which is some non cannabis giveaways. [00:22:08] Speaker E: Non cannabis giveaways. Still fun stuff. Yeah, but non cannabis. And we'll have cannabis there for sale. As long as you have an id. [00:22:18] Speaker A: Right. Right. Well, you should, you should have. I mean, I can't imagine anybody under 21 wanting to come to a 52 year old's birthday party. But you know. Yeah, you know, strangers. Strange, stranger things have happened, I guess. But yeah, so Andy Palooza 3 is also my birthday party. And it's also the three year anniversary of this podcast of Unsigned 518. Well, actually a couple weeks after, because I think May 10th or something was the first episode of Unsigned 5 and 8. But the same month is the three year anniversary of this show. Also it'll be my one year no drinking on May 20th. And what else? I think there's other things. There's probably other things, but it's a lot to celebrate. And then it's basically you and Single Cut are merging together in just such a positive way. Like. And it's like all my favorite shit that like comes together in one place. So I'm super excited for Andy Palooza 3. And I don't know if you probably don't even know, so I'll tell you here so you can get the reaction. But you know I played shortwave radio bands new newest song which is a hip hop collaboration with JB aka Dirty Moses. But JB is gonna be at Andy Palooza 3. He's gonna do. Do a. It was going to be a surprise set but by the time this episode comes out it will have been announced. But he's going to do a set. Camtron 5000 is going to do a set and then we have a full lineup at Short Radio Band. We have AB the Autocrat, Pigsquisite Gozer and Brother Junction. So it's like a lot of music, a lot of different music too. It's like hip hop into rock, into stoner rock into you know, rock again. I don't know if actually short of radio and we're probably not rock, we'd be a sub genre, maybe garage rock. Yeah, maybe, maybe. Maybe a touch of ska. Yeah, punky ska, whatever. But yeah, there's gonna be a lot of different music and it's gonna be super sweet because I think we're gonna, you know, instead of having like all the, the hip hop be at one spot, I think, I think it'd be cool to like disperse it through the day. You know what I mean? [00:24:55] Speaker E: Yes. Yeah. [00:24:55] Speaker A: So it's like some hip hop here and there because they're all people that are like top of their game. So it's gonna be awesome. And we'll have weed and beer and food. Food, yeah, there'll be food there. I'm assuming. And I think like this is unconfirmed. It may be confirmed by the time this episode comes out. But we're going to have a tattoo artist there doing flash tattoos and I'm working on. It's like unconfirmed but in the works of having a record label there that will have some vinyls on sale and they work with a lot of local bands and put out the really great stuff. People. Anybody who knows Knows who I'm talking about, but whatever. And a couple of other local vendors with some cool. So we kind of want to make it a full. A full day. Yeah. Almost like a festival vibe, you know, because it'll hopefully be nice. The garage doors open and. Yeah. So I think Andy Palooza 3 is gonna be sweet. [00:26:01] Speaker E: That sounds like a ton of fun. What time does it even start with all those bands? [00:26:05] Speaker A: I think we're gonna do 4:00. [00:26:07] Speaker E: Oh, wow. [00:26:08] Speaker A: Yeah, because we'll do like a 4 to 9 thing. But yeah, it'll be a, it'll be a thing. And, and basically, you know, the way it'll be set up is obviously at Single Cut. How it's that open. Yes, it's not gonna be necessary. You know, like, the music will be playing, but while the music's playing, you'll be encouraged to go check out the vendors and go get a fucking tattoo. And you know, I'm not gonna get a tattoo, by the way. I have no tattoos. And my wife asked me, she was like, you know, are you gon one? And my response, I was like, yeah, probably not. You know, to me, probably not meant no way. But I was like, nah, probably not. She's like, probably. I was like, no, definitely not. Definitely not. I don't think I will. [00:26:54] Speaker E: I'll need to find somebody to get matching tattoos with then. I was going to suggest that, yeah. [00:26:59] Speaker A: There'Ll be, there'll be people, you know, we'll. We'll do some matchmaking. We'll get some. We'll call out a tattoo design and be like, all right, you know, slice of pizza. [00:27:09] Speaker E: I have that already on my arm. [00:27:11] Speaker A: Do you? [00:27:11] Speaker E: Yes, I do. [00:27:12] Speaker A: No way. [00:27:12] Speaker E: I do. [00:27:13] Speaker A: Aaron from the Snorts has a, has a slice of pizza on his arm too. And he was like, oh, you should get one like that. I was like, that's actually pretty cool. [00:27:21] Speaker E: I used to live in Italy, so it's an important part of my life. [00:27:25] Speaker A: Oh, well, we should talk wood fired pizza. Because, like, I don't know, have we ever? [00:27:30] Speaker E: No, but I could talk about that all day. [00:27:32] Speaker A: Oh, I could as well. [00:27:33] Speaker E: All day. [00:27:34] Speaker A: I got super stories. So I think we got, we got an episode here. We got about 20 minutes to talk, so I think we'll do the wrap up and then we'll spend a couple minutes talking wood fired pizza off the air. So, 4:20 at single cut, 5:17 at single cuts. What are the hours at 400 rivers every day? [00:27:54] Speaker E: We are open every day from 9am to 10pm oh, wow. Yeah, yeah. Oh, we are there. [00:28:01] Speaker A: Yeah. Every day. [00:28:03] Speaker E: Fucking like the Waffle House of weed. [00:28:06] Speaker A: The Waffle House of Weed. That's. That's a. [00:28:10] Speaker E: Just in the sense that we're always open. [00:28:12] Speaker A: Right. And do you do deliveries? [00:28:14] Speaker E: We do delivery. [00:28:16] Speaker A: Like when? During any business hours, like locally in Troy. [00:28:19] Speaker E: I'm assuming, like, there's certain hours. So we won't be delivering to you at 9pm Right, right. But if, you know, I would say between like 10 and 7. [00:28:30] Speaker A: Cool. [00:28:30] Speaker E: Yeah. [00:28:31] Speaker A: And then for both of these events, you know, you could pre [email protected]. [00:28:37] Speaker E: Yes, please just make sure to put a note in there or give us a call and we'll make sure to bring that with us to the event so that you can have it there. [00:28:46] Speaker A: Yeah. And how. How cool would that be to be? Like, the weed people are here. Yay. I've got. I've got. I've got a goodie bag of my name on it. You know, I'm going to definitely. You'll see mine in there. [00:28:56] Speaker E: Absolutely. [00:28:57] Speaker A: I'll put. I'll put a note. You know, it's me. All right, so Allison of MB Farm, come and see her and me at single cut on 420 and 517. There's gonna be. There's so many bands between the two events, I don't even know where to start, but. And then go. Go check out 400 River. And Alice and I thank you again for taking time to come do this. It's always super fun. [00:29:21] Speaker E: Thank you. [00:29:22] Speaker A: All right, so I am Andy Scullin. She is Alison of MB Farm. This is unsigned 518. I'll see you on the road. Unsigned 518 is produced and hosted by me, Andy Scullin.
