[00:00:13] Speaker A: We get Spotlight with BJ Swinghammer. [00:00:19] Speaker A: Is that his real name? Yes, it is. Yeah. [00:00:25] Speaker A: We get Spotlight with BJ Swinghammer. [00:00:32] Speaker A: Is that his real name? Yes, it is. Yeah. BJ Weekend Spotlight. [00:00:42] Speaker B: Hello, hello, hello. What is going on, everybody? Happy Thursday. Welcome to another episode of Unsigned 518's Weekend Spotlight. I'm your host, BJ Schwinghammer. And yes, that is my real name. Just to start off, I hope everybody had a great Thanksgiving for people that celebrate it. And also during the Thanksgiving weekend, which was obviously crazy at the bars at the beginning. And the weekend, I'm sure, was certainly busy for a lot of people. I hope you got to listen to some great music. Always like great music going around the 518 these days. I had a great Thanksgiving. I didn't get out and listen to music again. That's gonna change soon. But, yeah, too busy with work and Thanksgiving and family, which is wonderful. I had a blast. And, oh, yeah, sorry I didn't give anybody a heads up that there was no Weekend Spotlight last week. I apologize for that. I should have given you a heads up, but I did. I totally spaced it. So next time when you guys see me, you're gonna sock me in the eye a little bit or whatever, you know, whatever people do these days. But instead of socking me in the eye, you could always just reach out to me on a message to Weekend Spotlight. Remember, that's Weekend with no e's, says wknd Spotlight on Instagram, and that's where I am. Send me a message. Be like, hey, Schwinghammer, screw you for not putting on an episode. And I'll be like, that's fair. And you can send me like a, you know, a gif of somebody punching me. You know, I'm not gonna say Jeff. I'm not gonna say Jeff. I'm gonna say gif, because you spell graphics or you pronounce graphics with a G. Graphics, not Drafix. So I'm not doing that. Anyways, there's that little diatribe. But I am gonna make it up to you by playing you an awesome song for Schwing Hammers Pick of the week, which is what I'm calling that. For a little bit this week, I decided to once again play Vaxus. That's V, A, E, X, U, S Vaxus, which is a very talented group of young people playing some really good metal. So to start off the podcast. [00:02:41] Speaker B: I've decided to go for a song off their new album, Me Culpa, which just came out this year. And this song is delusional. [00:03:30] Speaker A: In the shadow of a dying sun Ryan Cry of the boy Racing out to me. [00:03:40] Speaker A: Rising wide I was always meant to play. [00:03:50] Speaker A: Get me in the light of the midnight sun I can trust even what I come to. [00:04:00] Speaker A: My face. [00:04:16] Speaker A: Sa. [00:05:15] Speaker A: I. [00:07:10] Speaker A: There's too much to deal with almost. And in the end, you're completely alone with it all. [00:07:50] Speaker B: All right, that was Delusional from Vexis off their 2025 album, Mi Culpa. It wasn't released too long ago. It's a fantastic album. And I'll tell you one thing, if you're listening to this early in the morning, that song will wake you up. Better than a fucking cup of coffee. Or just as good as, depending on how much coffee you drink. But incredible music from an incredible band. These guys are just cutting a swath through the metal scene. And for good reason. And I know, you know, we go from Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, see what's going on. But you know, I decided to really key in on Friday, because Friday there's a lot of stuff going on at the Lark hall this week. You have a lot of acts going on. You have some great stuff happening, and it is absolutely amazing. But I decided to pluck out tomorrow. So tomorrow at Lark hall at the 11 inside of Larkhall in Albany at 6pm, you've got Belle Skinner and Neon Avenue. And both are fantastic bands. And Neon Avenue has an incredible drummer and my buddy Doug Klein. So, hey, Doug, if you're listening to this Doug Klein, your steins are fine, even though you haven't made them in like 20 years anyways, man. So. But you know, for this, for this little event going on here. Little my ass. It's an incredible event. For this friggin awesome event going on, I decided to play some Bill Skinner. And this is off their 2020 album Violette. And this song is Mon Cher. [00:09:46] Speaker A: Omon. [00:10:42] Speaker A: Together. [00:12:03] Speaker B: All right, that was Mon cheri off the 2020 album Violette. And you will notice, I'm sure you noticed, that the song is all in French. Mi francais cest merde, c' est album et treble. Merci de la voifie. It was a really good album. It's really chill. I enjoyed it immensely. Anyways, moving, we're skipping right over Saturday. Saturday's got a lot of stuff going on, but Sunday's got something really awesome going on. Something very important, very necessary these days. So Sunday at Snapper McGee's in Kingston at 4pm you have a benefit for the Ulster Immigrant Defense Network. Like I said, very Very necessary, very important, very timely. They got a great lineup. It's gonna be great lineup for the benefit. You got Couch Surfer, you have Negative Rex, you have Hide and Shine. Eerie. Love you guys. What's up? And Uncle Frank says no. And as much as I like to take the chance to play eerie as much as possible, I also immensely love Uncle Frank says no. So I'm gonna go with them. You know, I really wanted to play two songs off the album, I really did. But alas and alack, I can only play one. So the one I decided to go with off the 2024 album Milking the Moment. This is don't jerk my heart off. [00:13:24] Speaker A: Don't jerk my. [00:13:38] Speaker A: Well, I finally got Remember when you're so good getting up the road to kill my. [00:13:50] Speaker A: Mother. [00:13:55] Speaker A: 1, 2, 12, 4 how many tunes we trying to go for him than you or even with the guy working at the bookstore what can that grow? Dig. [00:14:23] Speaker A: In the fuck away from me Never want to see a face of a point of zombie sick and Hennessy Last thing that I ever want to happen is the same who wants to run away second fighting against your house and density is the assimilator that you do it anyway Feeling quite a fan Pops on the dam picking up all the members and fill up all your holes Collecting every member every damn self and charge my heart I'm lying so you're raving the gang and the smell remember when they play your game against and never tell I really hope you're going to need to leave the street to hell combined to bum duck you jerk my heart off 1, 2 12, 4 how many dudes were you trying to go for him that you are even with a guy working at the bookstore? [00:16:34] Speaker B: All right, that was don't jerk my Heart off by Uncle Frank says no off their 2024 album Milking the Molecule. [00:16:41] Speaker A: It. [00:16:43] Speaker B: I love it so much. Like I said, there were two songs and it kills me not to play the other one. It was Cheese Murder. I love cheese. Actually, you know what? It Cheese Murder. [00:17:07] Speaker A: Sam, not your cheese. Turn my fries if you please. [00:17:38] Speaker A: Mozzarella in my belly. [00:17:42] Speaker A: Paula Brio to the queen I'm loving lots of cheese. [00:17:52] Speaker A: Make my body sore like those towers out the door I'm not feeling any more Give me more J Butter. [00:18:02] Speaker A: J. [00:18:06] Speaker A: Jack Spotter. [00:18:09] Speaker A: Jacko make the Gango. [00:18:36] Speaker A: You'Re my track to the heart attack. [00:18:39] Speaker A: From the Fedox of cheese smelling taste of teas Stop Gambitis do big GR make my body sore like those stars out the door I'm not feeling it anymore anymore Transmission. [00:19:00] Speaker A: Transmutter. [00:19:03] Speaker A: Transmuter. [00:19:08] Speaker A: Sam. [00:19:42] Speaker A: Cheese murder. [00:19:49] Speaker B: All right, that was Cheese murder off the 2024 album Milking the Moment from Uncle Frank says no. And yeah, I just played two of your songs. They were. They were going to get back to me and be like, oh, we'll choose a song for you. But everybody gets busy. So it was up to me. So you know what? Screw it. I just played two too, because you guys are awesome and that's fantastically fun album and I love it so much. Anyways, all right, now that I'm just taking up time playing too much awesome music. [00:20:19] Speaker B: All right, moving on to the Metroland Metroland now. And it is time once again to listen to the hot single in your area. That's a list crafted by T.J. foster. And although it was crafted by T.J. foster, he just didn't have the time to do the reviews and everything. So he decided to outsource that to the overly capable andy Scullin of unsigned 518 and shortwave radio band. The song that I decided to go with is Katie Gallagher. So this is a song that is. You know, things are hectic, man. It's. The Christmas season's going on. Whether or not you actually celebrate Christmas or get into it in any way way, it's still a busy, busy season. People are running around and driving around like crazy. Everybody's getting all stressed out and burnt out from it. So I decided to end this podcast for the last song with something that's just wonderful. It's chill, it's melodic. Katie Gallagher has just an outstanding voice. So this is something that will chill you out and lull you a little bit before going back into the craziness. So this is Katie Gallagher off the single from October 4th of this year. This is anybody else. [00:21:50] Speaker C: That went away too, too soon Wondering where I went that sense of promise that comes with early June. [00:22:05] Speaker C: Feelings change from day to day. [00:22:10] Speaker C: Suddenly indulgent Like it's something you could crave Other nights you're crying to a stranger Crash beneath the way. [00:22:27] Speaker C: Listen to the whispers Till they turn into a scream Push away the nightmares to focus on the dreams Give up on the need to feel like more than just yourself as if you could be anybody else. [00:22:48] Speaker C: As if if you could be anybody else. [00:23:38] Speaker C: Listen to the whispers till they turn into scream Push away the nightmares to focus on the dreams Give up on the need to feel like more than just yourself as if you could be anybody else. [00:24:00] Speaker C: As if you could be anybody else. [00:24:06] Speaker C: She sat under a cotton candy sky. [00:24:11] Speaker C: Thought of all her past selves and sang a sweet goodbye I leaned back but kept her gaze on the horizon Left it all behind. [00:24:28] Speaker C: Listen to those verse Till they turn into a scream Push away the nightmares and focus on the dreams Give up on the need to feel like more than just yourself is it if you could be anybody else. [00:24:50] Speaker C: As if you could be anybody else. [00:24:55] Speaker A: As if you. [00:24:56] Speaker C: Could be anybody else. [00:25:01] Speaker C: As if you could be anybody. [00:25:34] Speaker B: All right, that was Anybody Else from Katie Gallagher. That was. That is the hot single in your area for this one week.
